Updates On Talent Choices, DPS, and Stat Weights (MoP Beta Build 15929)

Usual disclaimer: the following information is as of the Mist of Pandaria Beta build 15929, released on August 02, 2012, and may not be accurate once future patches are released.

For a primer on this post, please see this post from earlier this week.

Here are some updated graphs from the latest patch:

DPS Relative to Encounter Type and Talents

As you can see, DPS is up across the board. This can be attributed to two different sources: 1) an updated BiS profile in use by SimulationCraft, and 2) the change to our 2P T14 set bonus to grant 10% crit to Shadow Word: Pain instead of Mind Flay. 9 out of the 10 top DPS specs (2 per each fight) remain the same, with only MB+DI replacing MB+PI for #2 on Patchwerk.

The DPS gains by talent and encounter combination are as follows (raw DPS and percentage of the previous DPS total):

DPS Increase Relative to Encounter Type and Talents
%DPS Increase Relative to Encounter Type and Talents

The biggest winner in the change to our set bonus were any sims related to a high amount of movement and/or stuns, e.g. Heavy Movement or Helterskelter. DoTs, especially those which are instant cast, likeShadow Word: Pain, do more damage on those kinds of fights so it is no surprise that a 10% increase to the crit chance of Shadow Word: Pain has shown to be a 2.2k – 4.0k DPS increase. All other sims have between a 1.1k and 2.3k DPS increase — not shabby by any stretch. What is very telling, however, is that for Light Movement/Patchwerk/Ultraxion sims, the three highest increases were from the profiles with Divine Insight as the Level75 talent (in the same order for Level 45 talents each time as well: (From Darkness, Comes Light, Shadow Word: Insanity, and Mindbender).

Pseudo Point Value of Shadow StatsPseudo Point Value of Shadow Stats Table

Pseudo Point values shifted down quite a bit from the last build. This is because the value of Int before normalizing it to 1PP = 1 Int increased from an average of 3.7790/3.7550/3.6780 for Best Per Fight/Best Two Per Fight/All (respectively) to 3.9440/3.9200/3.8218 (respectively). This, coupled with marginal increases in the raw value of the other stats (except crit which dropped slightly even before normalization), is the reason why the value of all secondary stats fell.

Heavy Movement
Helterskelter
Light Movement
Patchwerk
Ultraxion

The SimulationCraft profiles changed slightly from the last post to this one.

These sims were for fights that are single-target. Multi target fights may (will) have different results.

These sims are as of Mists of Pandaria Beta build 15929, released on August 02, 2012. Once a new build comes out, these values will no longer be 100% valid!
